Richard Meier
Richard Meier is a prominent abstract artist and architect, as well as the youngest architect to receive his profession’s highest accolade, the Pritzker Architecture Prize. After receiving the prize, Meier was awarded what is probably one of the 20th century’s most important commissions, the design of the Getty Center, the Los Angeles’ art complex funded by the J. Paul Getty Trust. Known for his geometric white designs that redefined ideas about modern life and style, was a leading member of the New York Five—a group of influential New York City architects. In addition to the Getty Center, Meier is well-known for his building designs, including the Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art and City Hall, the Paley Center for Media and The Hague City Hall. In addition to starting the firm Richard Meier & Partners Architects, Meier also received numerous honors, including the AIA Gold Medal.
